Photodynamic Therapy (PDT)
Age & liver spots, UV damage, irregular pigmentation and persistent acne can be improved with a Photodynamic Therapy booster. This booster is the latest development in skin rejuvenation to improve the appearance of skin. Originally studied as a non-surgical solution to skin cancers, researchers found the study recipients exhibited dramatic improvements in complexion and skin tone.
Helpful For:
- Improving various skin concerns associated with prolonged sun exposure.
- Age spots.
- Liver spots.
- UV damage.
- Irregular pigmentation.
- Overall skin rejuvenation.
Benefits:
Photodyanmic Therapy is a simple and effective solution to improve the visible signs of aging on the face, hands, neck, and décolletage (chest). Boosters are activated with an IPL®/BBL® Skin Rejuvenation procedure.
What to Expect:
- A Skinscan analysis and consultation with a Skin Specialist to determine if a Photodynamic Therapy booster is right for you. Skinscans are taken throughout the treatment regimen to visually illustrate the improvement of skin.
- Depending on individual goals and the condition of your skin, a pre-treatment plan may be needed to prepare the skin for a Photodynamic Therapy booster.
- A chemical solution is applied to the skin and allowed to incubate approximately 30-60 minutes before an IPL®/BBL® Skin Rejuvenation procedure activates the booster.
- Results may be seen after the first booster, but typically a series of 2-3 boosters, spaced within a series of 5 IPL®/BBL® Skin Rejuvenation procedures is necessary to achieve an optimal result.
- Skin rejuvenation results are lasting, but are affected by future UV damage.
- Meticulous pre and post care instruction will be reviewed.
- Treatments may be repeated.
- Minimal downtime.
Things to Consider:
- Minimal side effects and risk.
- A stinging sensation may be present during the incubation and activation period.
- Redness resembling a sunburn, swelling and peeling are to be expected post treatment. These are temporary conditions that usually resolve in 3 to 10 days.
- You must stay completely away from light and heat sources for 48 hours after activation of PDT. Including time in an automobile and under fluorescent lights.
- Sun block is a must due to increased sun sensitivity.
Things You Need to Know:
How was Photodynamic Therapy developed, how is this chemical booster treatment performed and what are the benefits?
Originally studied as a non-surgical solution to skin cancers, researchers found the study recipients exhibited dramatic improvements in complexion and skin tone. PDT is performed by applying a specifically compounded chemical onto the skin which is attracted into rapidly reproducing or highly active cells. Then light is applied to the skin, activating the chemical which alters the targeted cell. The results are: increased evenness of skin color, decreased pore size, decreased sebaceous oils production.
