BOTOX® Cosmetic is a refined protein, also referred to as a denervating agent. When injected into precise points in the facial muscles, BOTOX® Cosmetic prevents the nerve action necessary for the injected muscles to contract. The result is a reduction in the ability to make specific facial expressions. BOTOX® Cosmetic treats the lines resulting from wear and tear of facial expressions such as laughing, smiling, scowling or disagreeing in the upper face. In younger individuals, BOTOX® Cosmetic can delay the formation of telltale frown lines and crow's feet. Individuals who have already developed these conditions will see varying degrees of improvement, from complete erasure to very visible softening. When stopping the muscle contraction with BOTOX® Cosmetic isn't enough, a skin resurfacing treatment can soften remaining surface lines, and cosmetic fillers can plump up deeper creases. Many clients find a combination of all three provide the maximum results.
Different parts of our face reflect age in different ways. The upper portion's forehead lines and crow's feet appear as the decades of repeated facial expressions such as laughing, smiling, squinting and frowning take their toll on your skin. BOTOX® Cosmetic treats the lines, wrinkles and creases associated with these repeated facial expressions, referred to as "active" or "dynamic" wrinkling, by reducing muscle movement in those areas.
The middle and lower portions of our face, including the areas around the nose, lips and mouth are affected by gravity, and by fat and collagen loss. Cosmetic fillers plump up the skin structure, helping to restore a youthful, smooth appearance. Deeper creases and wrinkles in this area occur when there is decline in hylauronic acid, a natural building block that fills in the space between the collagen and elastin fibers found in the skin that hold in moisture and maintain skin volume. Declining levels of natural hylauronic acid and collagen result in a deterioration of the support layers of the skin which leads to deep creases and wrinkles. Dermal fillers can be hylauronic acid based, that when injected just under the skin's surface temporarily replaces volume. A combination of BOTOX® Cosmetic, dermal fillers or a skin resurfacing procedure may be recommended to obtain the optimum result.
BOTOX® Cosmetic minimizes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by decreasing the muscle activity that causes lines and wrinkles. Dermal fillers improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by adding lost volume under skin in the affected areas.
