BOTOX® Cosmetic
The fastest growing segment of cosmetic services is injectables*. The amount of money spent on BOTOX® Cosmetic and fillers this year alone equals the projected expenditure of all other plastic surgery procedures combined*.
Helpful For:
Preventing the formation and improving the look of facial wrinkles and creases in the forehead, crow's feet and beyond.
Benefits:
The treatment is easy and the results are practically instantaneous.
What to Expect:
- A Skinscan analysis and consultation with a Skin Specialist to determine if a BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment is right for you.
- Results seen in three to seven days.
- Results last three to four months.
- Requires three to eight pinpoint injections per region.
- Typically no downtime.
Things to Consider:
- Mild bruising or a headache is rare but possible.
- Mild "drooping" can happen if the BOTOX® Cosmetic injection spreads to outlying muscle groups, especially the eyelids. This is a temporary and treatable condition.
What You Need to Know:
What is BOTOX® Cosmetic?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a refined protein, also referred to as a denervating agent. When injected into precise points in the facial muscles, BOTOX® Cosmetic prevents the nerve action necessary for the injected muscles to contract. The result is a reduction in the ability to make specific facial expressions. BOTOX® Cosmetic treats the lines resulting from wear and tear of facial expressions such as laughing, smiling, scowling or disagreeing in the upper face. In younger individuals, BOTOX® Cosmetic can delay the formation of telltale frown lines and crow's feet. Individuals who have already developed these conditions will see varying degrees of improvement, from complete erasure to very visible softening. When stopping the muscle contraction with BOTOX® Cosmetic isn't enough, a Microlaser Peel® can soften any remaining surface lines and fillers can plump up deeper creases.
What is the difference between BOTOX® Cosmetic and temporary fillers like Restylane?
Different parts of our face age in different ways. The upper portion's forehead lines and crow's feet appear as the decades of repeated facial expressions such as laughing, smiling, squinting and frowning begin to take their toll. BOTOX® Cosmetic treats the lines, wrinkles and creases associated with these repeated facial expressions, referred to as "active" or "dynamic" wrinkling.
The middle and lower portions of our face, including the areas around the nose, lips and mouth are affected by gravity, fat, hylauronic acid and collagen loss. Fillers such as Restylane®, plump up the skin structure, restoring a youthful, smooth appearance. Deeper creases and wrinkles in this area occur when there is decline in hylauronic acid, a natural building block that fills in the space between the collagen and elastin fibers found in the skin that hold in moisture and maintain skin volume. Declining levels of natural hylauronic acid and collagen result in a deterioration of the support layers of the skin which leads to deep creases and wrinkles. Restylane® is a hylauronic acid based filler that when injected just under the skin's surface temporarily replaces volume. A combination of BOTOX® Cosmetic, Restylane® or a Microlaser Peel® procedure may be recommended to obtain the optimum result.
BOTOX® Cosmetic minimizes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by decreasing the muscle activity that causes lines and wrinkles. Restylane® improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by adding lost volume under skin in the affected areas.
