What to Expect:
- A Skinscan analysis and consultation with a Skin Specialist to determine if an IPL®/BBL® Skin Rejuvenation treatment is right for you. Skinscans are taken throughout the treatment regimen to visually illustrate and track the improvement of skin.
- Depending on individual goals and the condition of your skin, a pre-treatment plan may be needed to prepare your skin for an IPL®/BBL® Skin Rejuvenation procedure.
- Sun exposure to the treated area should be avoided two to three weeks prior IPL®/BBL® Skin Rejuvenation procedure.
- Questions regarding your eye color, natural hair color, and tolerance to the sun will be assessed and entered into a sophisticated computer system, ensuring a safe, effective and customized treatment.
- An IPL®/BBL® Skin Rejuvenation procedure delivers pulses of light to the affected area, which targets the damaged skin cells. The damaged cells are destroyed and a clearer, more radiant complexion emerges.
- A mild stinging sensation, similar to a rubber band snap may be felt during the procedure.
- A contact cooling system promotes a more comfortable experience.
- Meticulous pre and post care instruction will be reviewed.
- A series of three to five treatments is typically necessary to achieve the optimum effect. Combining Photodynamic Therapy boosters with an IPL®/BBL® Skin Rejuvenation procedure may enhance the desired effect and reduce the number of treatments. Ask a Skin Specialist to see if this option is appropriate for you.
- Treatments may be repeated every three weeks.
- Minimal downtime.
- Lasting results.
Things to Consider:
- Minimal risk.
- Some individuals may develop an irritation similar to hives; this irritation typically subsides in a few hours.
- Symptoms immediately following the procedure can resemble a sun-burn with mild peeling over a couple of days. Any discomfort can be easily managed with an over the counter pain reliever.
- Hyper or hypo-pigmentation is rare but possible, particularly in individuals with darker skin tones.
- Scarring is possible after a laser treatment if an infection develops.
- Sun block is a must because of increased sun sensitivity.
What You Need to Know:
What is the difference between an IPL®/BBL® Skin Rejuvenation procedure and other anti-aging treatments like Chemical Peels or Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion and Chemical Peels treat surface irregularities such as fine lines & wrinkles. Over time and a series of treatments; pigment discolorations are less noticeable, acne scars soften and skin appears polished and smoother. Regular maintenance must occur or skin improvements will disappear after time.
Most commonly referred to as Intense Pulsed or Broad Based Light (IPL®/BBL®). These devices pass varying strengths of light through the skin without injury to the skin's surface. The light source is concentrated to target its power deep down into the dermis to treat discolorations, unsightly facial veins, redness and provide an overall rejuvenated effect to your skin. These types of devices repair and improve a wide array of cosmetic concerns with lasting and meaningful results.
What is the difference between IPL®/BBL® Skin Rejuvenation and other procedures such as the Microlaser Peel®?
IPL®/BBL® Skin Rejuvenation uses a concentrated light source to target power deep down into the dermis without injuring the surface of the skin, to improve a range of cosmetic concerns including: discolorations, unsightly veins, and redness. IPL®/BBL® Skin Rejuvenation has the added benefit of providing an overall "rejuvenated" effect to the skin. Because the surface layers of the skin remain intact there is minimal downtime, less risk and discomfort than more powerful lasers such as the Microlaser Peel®. IPL®/BBL® Skin Rejuvenation is used to successfully treat a wide array of cosmetic concerns but individuals with fine lines & wrinkles, deeper lines, crepey skin, discoloration and uneven texture or tone should consider a Microlaser Peel® procedure. The Microlaser Peel® uses the power of heat and light in a targeted beam to remove and resurface the skin. A Microlaser Peel® offers dramatic results in resurfacing the skin to diminish wrinkles, discolorations and other surface irregularities along with improving the overall texture and tone of skin. Removing the surface layers requires downtime for the skin to crust over, shed and fully heal, and carries risk of infection, pigment changes and scarring. It is important to discuss the pros and cons of each treatment option with a Skin Specialist in order to determine which procedure is right for you.
